What's going on with my friend?

I have known my friend for a long time and he uses to be very happy now he is seventeen in high school, and he hardly speaks in cl but during lunch he's a hit, I learned while he grew up he dealt with four dads his biological dad was a drunk and druggie, then his brothers dad was a pedophile, and the other dad verbally abused him for six years, he always talks about how having true love and have a girlfriend would make him very happy, so what's wrong with my friend?
