Uncomfortable restaurant experience?

Recently I went to a fairly fancy restaurant with my family, expecting a good dining experience, but, to my surprise, the waiter started thrusting the table between my husband and my 4-year-old son. Needless the say, the whole experience was more than a little unsettling. What should I do if this happens again?
