How do i find out where someone is buried or if they were cremated?

The death certificate would indicate how burial was handled. However, if you had to leave after the funeral, it would appear that he was buried as memorials are the usual service and not funerals after a cremation. In either cast the death certificate would indicate the funeral home that handled the arrangements, and the cemetery.
