Just bought new wallet that smells funky (fishy & like something died). Why?

The smell is probably formaldehyde. Fake leather is just plastic and plastic like that can give off certain chemicals as it gets exposed to air and heat. Formaldehyde smells like dead fish. Maybe if you leave it out in the sun and fresh air a day it should be better. The heat from the sun will speed the process.
